Home

Nows a good time to talk about my home lifestyle in Delhi. I want to say that the house I am living in is incredibly outdated. The longer I’m living here, the more I’m realizing that my impression of homes in India is disconnected from reality. My Nani’s house was built in the 60’s and the house we currently live in was built in the 80’s. These homes are missing so many of the luxuries that come with in homes now. I’ve always compared them to my American homes that were built in 2007 at the earliest. All the homes around our Delhi house have been rebuilt in some spectacular ways. Many of the problems that bother me are not problems in normal homes. Regardless, this is an experience in itself.

I have accumulated a few things that makes living here easier. 1. My grandma has a maid that mops the floors, cleans the bathroom, and does the dishes daily. This is the same woman that has working for my grandma since I was a kid, and there’s a level of trust with her. I’m able to give her some extra cash and get her to do my laundry and dishes as well. 2. I hired a cook. Food is probably one of my biggest challenges - both while living alone and traveling. My cook comes twice a day and makes warm fresh food for me.

My cook makes all kinds of cuisines. In my opinion, she’s the best out of all the other maids that my cousins have.. I have to buy the ingredients (which I can ask her to do as well if I’m in a pinch) and plan the meals and she’ll go ahead and cook them whence comes. If I tell her the meal schedule ahead of time, she’ll come while I’m gone, and cook and leave. There’s little stress, especially with my grandma being home all the time. Other than maids, I got a new washing machine, a clothes drying rack, som new outlets, and some other random amenities.
